Someone Threw Water On A Pop-Star

Continuing my string of rants, (first about the Welch's Demons), I have just watched Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and to my disgust, yet another hack-job musician has made it into the spotlight. Her name is Toby Lightman. Now, after listening to her, here is what I have to say. Ahem...

One, stop ripping off Sheryl Crow's look. And while were at it, her sound. It isn't even working for Sheryl Crow to be Sheryl Crow! Have we even heard from her since she released that lame Steve McQueen song?

Toby Lightman

Sheryl Crow

Second, if you want just a little more credibility as an artist, don't come on stage with a bassist, drummer, second guitarist, organist with TWO keyboards, and a guy on turntables. If you need that much on stage with you to create the sound you want, then you are no solo artist, you are a woman stealing other musicians talent and putting your name on it. Besides, that kind of instrumentation belongs in a studio, not on a stage.

And to any fan of hers that may stuble upon this and get mad at me... all I have to say is...

Email me here:thedailyfarmer@msn.com
IM here: TheDailyFarmer (AOL/AIM)

Nuff said. I need a beer. Peace...

Children Of The Juice

Is it just me, or is everyone really annoyed by those kids in the Welch's Juice commercials? I dunno, but those kids just give me the freaking willies... They just have this sort creepy "Children Of The Corn" look. I dunno, just totally gives me the jibblies...

Anyways. Spring break rocks. Paperboy for NES rocks.

Shin splints don't rock. Send me some love folks! Peace...

Mental Margarita

After a very busy week of midterms and in-class performances, and a packed weekend of shows and cast parties, it is now time to soak up the sun and relax... Cuz it's Spring Break!

Girls Gone Wild, Farmer Style

So, for the next week, I will be hitting the gym, practicing my dancing for closing weekend of A Chorus Line, maybe heading to Napa with Susan, who knows. But I will have to also do a little work, prepping for an audition on Friday, and cleaning out Gracie, and my room. I will enjoy this so much. Good ol' Mother Nature better behave this week!

In other news, this weekend was a blast. Ricky, from my show, is a hoot and a holler when he has had a few drinks. Meeeooww. Chenoah's new pad is totally bitchin. And while I may not have had as large a part in this show as compared to Hello Dolly, I have had a blast! Although, I will admit, I am looking forward to sinking my teeth in to Seven Brides. Lotsa work, but I can't wait.

As for now, it is time for me to get a few odds and ends done around here. Ohh, by the way, I took out that last post with the "cheeps" and "post its" pictures. Just too big and garish for the site. If you wanna see them, just email me. Have a good one folks... Peace...

Adam's Quest

Well, I have taken it upon myself to try and bulk myself up for Seven Brides... I can't really assign a weight to my goal, but I am going to try and make myself look noticably bigger by the time the show starts. I am currently 6'0'', 190lbs. I will probably lose weight in the end, but will look bigger. At least I hope! Please, send me encouragement! Peace...

Theme Music

Just took another test, thanks to Kim. Here's what it says, very appropriate if you ask me!

Born to Be Wild

You are a mad man and your theme song is "Born to be Wild." You're the guy most likely to run out on the baseball diamond during a rain delay or bang on the penalty box at a hockey game. Either way, when your mug comes on the Jumbotron, the crowd goes nuts. Whether it's bungee jumping off a bridge, or ducking the ropes at a ski resort, you throw caution to the wind—or so it seems to others. But you know that it's not danger that you crave, but the excitement that comes with challenging your fears. That's why you've got no problem asking a total stranger to dance. You are an instant party, and your friends love you for the risks you take, because whether you show it or not, you're pretty much in control when you take them. So full speed ahead as you take the world in a love embrace. You know your birthright and Steppenwolf helps take you there.

Very cool... Well, two shows today, so I am out! Peace...

Extra Extra!!

Well, it has been a day of great news! So, I just might as well share it with all of you!

First off, after all the work at callbacks, I got the call from Bob Wallitner last night, the stage manager for West Valley Light Opera. Turns out,

I am going to be the lead for the company's production of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers! I got ADAM! I am so beyond stoked! But at the same time, its a kind of major hit of reality; I got a lead. I am going to have to work so hard... But hey, I can't wait! It is going to be a fantastic cast and an amazing show. I am really eager to get started on it. But first things first, gotta finish being Roy in A Chorus Line! Ahh I love this biz!

And to add even more happiness to this day, it turns out I am going to be an uncle for a third time! My sister Katie is pregnant yet again! She is due in November, so little Kelsea and Meghan are going to have more company... Big family! I love it... In other news...

Happy St. Paddy's Day! Go get snoggard!

Well the door swung open, a cold wind blew in
And there stood a man unafraid.
He called for a beer. They realized when near
It was Johnny come back from the grave.
He said, "You could keep me away from work.
For there's nothing I live for me there.
But I told you today of the pledge I made
You can't keep a man from his beer! They sang...

"I'll drink from dusk till dawn
I'll drink a toast to day's end.
Yes, I'll drink from dusk till dawn
And I'll drink to the health of me friends."

~Excerpt from "Drink From Dusk Till Dawn", Irish Folk Standard~

The Groove

Once again, from the San Jose State University Library, its little ol' me.

Ahh, feeling so good. Callbacks went great, and now I get to have a light day of work, tackle my scene and a song, have rehearsal for the movie tonight, and then get a good nights sleep. God, I love being an actor.

This past weekend of shows went really well. Packed houses, lots of my friends came to see it, and I danced so much better than I ever have in my entire life. The only problem came on Sunday when I tweaked my ankle doing a turn. Ohh well, I'm ok now. Thankfully it wasn't serious.

As for this week, its just back to school work at usual, and the constant cold-sweat I am going to be in waiting for the call from WVLO on whether or not I got a part. But as for now, I am headed back down to the second floor to find some sheet music. Have a good one... Peace...

Reminiscent

Wow, what a day yesterday.

Went and audtioned for Seven Brides, kicked some serious booty on the vocal part and pretty good on the acting part, but the dancing wasn't too hot. Still, got a callback, so go me! Big up to everyone who was there, including Kim, Erin and Alison. Lots of talented people there...

Then it was time for a phatty nap, then an evening show. And boy, it was a helluva show! Packed house, loud crowd, and everyone had a great show. I hit my turns nice and solid and sang well, so it was a great show for me personally.

After the show, I went out to exchange pleasantries with my friends who came to the show, and I noticed Kathy Burch, my director from Hello Dolly was there. I said my hello's and went to go get changed for Bobby Giraudo's after-party. Well, my stage manager asked me to close up the place for him, so I stuck around a little longer after everyone had left except Mom, the piano player. Well, Kathy knocked on the door to get back in because she had left her purse in the theatre. And at that moment, it was officially on. A full-fledged three hour bull-session, just like the Dolly days. We seriously talked about everything from acting, singing, good tv shows, bad tv shows, M*A*S*H, Friends, certain black-listed actors who shall remain nameless.... :::snicker:::, and just about anything. It was fantastic. So, I finally got home about 2:30am. Eee-gods.

Well, as for today, show at 2:30, which good ol' Roya, (my old drum major from Leland) will be at. Then its company photos and a miriad of other do-ings. And a special MEARDE to Ceara for her two auditions today. Out like a fat man in dodgeball... Peace...

Musical Energy

Have you ever had the feeling that music just has a certain power in life? That the right song can just spur you into action? Over the past two days, that has been my life. I don't know why. For instance, I was coming back from working with my brother, and I was driving through Los Gatos. I got a stop light, and while I was stopped, Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots came on. Now, for those of you who don't know the song, it starts with a country-esque riff, then the music cuts for a second. Then, all of a sudden, the whole band comes in on the down beat with the main line. Well, with the summer breeze running through my car, my radio turned to a modest level, after a day of tiring, but satisfying work, that intro felt so good to hear. Just made me happy and mellow, and in perfect harmony with the world. Then, as if planned, the light turned green EXACTLY as the downbeat hit where the whole band thunders in together. Got such a charge out of that! It was like having a soundtrack to my everyday life, like in movies.

Other than that, I have just been having these awesome moments where totally appropriate songs are coming on at certain times. Like me feeling a killer happy high on the way to work this morning when all of a sudden Hard To Handle by the Black Crowes comes on. Awesome song. It just been like this all week. Also, today while I was folding laundry, I dipped into my old vinyl and listened to the old Monkee's LP... Totally old skool.

Add to all of this that the weather has been uber-bitchin, and I am one happy Irishman! With weather like this, just popping in Sublime makes me crave a beach trip...

Well, its been a killer week, and now for a busy weekend of shows, homework, auditions, hopefully callbacks, and maybe some sleep! Gotta love being an actor! Peace...

A Special One

Just for my USC readers, and you know who you are... here is a little something thanks to an old post of Mel's. Check it out...

There's a Trojan on your computer!

I hope you likey. As for me, I am off to campus to finish HW and meet with my scene partner. On another side note, this weather freaking rocks. I love being able to chill in sandals and shorts, in March. Back in Greendale, there is still snow... Sorry Wisconsin, here is where Cali has seriously got you beat.

Well, I hope all of ya are enjoying this rad weather. I know I have GOT TO hit up Santa Cruz damn soon to recharge the batteries in lieu of my probably not being able to take my So. Cal. trip due to lack of funds and needing to prep for auditions. Ohh well. Santa Cruz it is, cheaper and a helluva lot of fun. I can drop in on the Emilys, catch some rays, grab a slice and a flick, and maybe even camp out... Ohh yeah... Ok Farmer, relax, still got work to do today... I betta get to work before I just start impulsively driving over the mountian... Peace...

Hot-Rod-A-Blog

I have added so many cool features to The Daily Farmer recently, that I just had to add one more... If you will notice, at the bottom of each post, there is a comments option now! You dont have to fill in your email address or webpage URL if you don't want to. But it will make quick reference to you faster, especially to those of you who are blog heads and want more traffic on your site. So yeah, now you can tell me such things as...

"Hey Farmer, you suck."
"Farmer, I am your love slave."
"TDF, I am having your baby."

Or something like that... Just hopefully more of #2 than anything else... Well, before I go off to start my day, I leave you with some words of wisdom that have come to mind in the past few days...

~ Never try to lower a drop after having three glasses of champagne.
~ Sometimes, you just gotta get down and do the white-boy boogie.
~ It is far easier to play guitar after having three margaritas and a homemade mudslide or two.
~ When all else fails, walk to Safeway.
~ Small hyper kid + 4 pound, hyper dog = Tired dog who just wants to be left alone goddamnit!
~ The tuna at Saturn Cafe is lethal.
~ "Jesus is a sellout."

Well, that about does it for now. Ohh, one more thing. During a trip to Santa Cruz last night, Ceara and I went to Saturn Cafe. (Hence the tuna crack before.)

If any of you happen to go there and sit at a booth near the window on the Pacific Ave side of the cafe somewhat near to the bar, check out a little something I left behind in the booth table amongst all the toys in the clear top display. If you can email me and let me know you saw it, and what it is, you get a prize. Its pretty obvious that I left it there. It's about the size of a biz card.

Well, that about does it for now. Have a good one. Peace...

Damn, Thats One Sexy Blog

There is yet another innovation of the internet that yours truly is now using, and I present it to you here.

Is my Blog HOT or NOT?

Yesserie. Jim and James of HOTORNOT.COM have made a blog rating version of the popular portrait rating site. Very cool if you ask me, I just hope that I get some ratings here! Hint Hint... Well, in other news...

Opening night of the show was fantastic. Great show, my shin spints are killing me, and I cut my thumb on an arbor bolt. What a night. That first sip of champage was so sweet. All that hard work has payed off and we have a fantastic production to show for it. Well hey, I have to split. We have a 2:30 show today, and I have a lot to do! Peace...

Sinking In

Finally, all this dancing stuff is starting to make sense. I have been dancing better than I have ever danced before in my life the past few nights. Add to that, I helped choreograph a number for a show in San Leandro. Yes, you heard me right, I CHOREOGRAPHED. Even taught the high school kids how to do the number. Ceara did a lot of work too, so of course it came out great. But anyways...

I am in the library picking up some sheet music for my ballad for my musical theatre workshop class. I am doing A New Town Is A Blue Town from The Pajama Game. Great song, really going to test my range, stamina, power, and tonal accuracy. I can't wait to get started. Other than school, the show is opening this weekend, which I am way more than stoked about! All of everyone's hard work is really paying off. It looks and sounds fantastic. Add to that, I just had an audition for a short film that went really well. I am praying I get this part. I want to get as much experience in straight acting as I can so I am not doomed to be labeled a "song and dance man". You all know how much I love musicals, but I don't want to neglect my acting skills in film and straight plays.

Well, that about does it for now. I hope all is well for everyone out there. Oh, almost forgot. Congrats to Kim's brother Chris and his wife for the wonderful news of a baby on the way! Totally rad. Keep it real folks. Come see my show. Peace...
